Speech and Language Evaluation Services for Children

We understand how important it is for your child to communicate effectively.

Our evaluations help identify and address any communication challenges your child may face through observation, parent report, and assessments.

Here’s a breakdown of the key areas we assess:

1. Articulation

(Pronunciation)

Articulation looks at how clearly your child speaks and how they pronounce words. We:

  • Check if your child can make specific speech sounds accurately spontaneously or after a model.

  • Identify any mispronunciations or sound errors.

  • Determine if these errors are typical for their age.

2. Language

(Understanding and Using Words)

Language evaluation covers how your child understands and uses language. This includes:

  • Receptive (Understanding): We assess how well your child understands words, follows directions, and comprehends stories.

  • Expressive: We look at how your child uses words, forms sentences, and tells stories.

3. Fluency

(Flow of Speech)

Fluency focuses on the smoothness of your child’s speech, including any stuttering or other disfluencies. We:

  • Observe your child’s speech to find any repetitions or pauses.

  • Evaluate how often these disruptions happen and how much they impact your child’s ability to effectively communicate their message.

  • Understand how fluency issues impact your child’s communication and confidence, and self image.

4. Augmentative and Alternative Communication

(AAC)

AAC is for children who may not be able to reliably access their voices through spoken language. We:

  • Assess your child’s current communication development.

  • Explore different communication tools and methods (picture boards or speech-generating devices).

  • Find the best tools to help your child communicate effectively.

5. Pragmatic Language

(Social Communication)

Pragmatic language is about how your child uses language in social settings. We:

  • Evaluate how your child uses language to interact with others (greeting, providing comments and questions, and understanding body cues).

  • Determine how we can help support social interactions including: the ability for your child to convey their message, understand jokes, and use language based on different situations.

Why These Evaluations Matter

Our evaluations are designed to give a clear picture of your child’s communication strengths and areas for improvement. Early identification and targeted support can make a big difference in helping your child communicate better and build their confidence.
